Theophelia, my newest partner, designs and sells handmade jewelry from her store in Kumasi, Ghana. She uses Krobo beads and brass accents in her one-of-a-kind statement pieces. Her earrings, adorned with Adinkra brass symbols, are made from seed beads.
Symbol: Ankh (Key of Life) is an ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol used in Egyptian art to represent the word for "life" and, by extension, as a symbol of life itself. This symbol is now used as an accent in Ghanaian jewelry.
African glass beads from Ghana are often referred to as Krobo beads since they are primarily produced in the Krobo mountains located in the eastern region of southeastern Ghana. Krobo beads are made from recycled glass which is broken into tiny fragments and molded into beautiful beads. The glass is layered to create colorful patterns and designs.
